DIRECTOR’S & WRITER’S NOTES

Bob Cunningham – Writer/Director/Artistic Director

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Jubilations Dinner Theatre produced a fun Star Wars parody called Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy. Since Hollywood keeps making Star Wars movies we thought, hey let’s do another parody farce! Welcome to Star Warz 2: The Farce Strikes Back! This time we take our silly comedic look at the “dark side” of the force. Many of the classic characters are back, along with a couple new friends. The Star Warz gang are once again rocking out to the hits of 70s and 80s while dancing like they’ve never danced before… except for Darth Vader… Vader don’t dance!

As always, it has been a pleasure to work with the amazing Jubilations Dinner Theatre team to make this show happen. From an amazing production team making truly magical experiences, to the fantastic in-house team of characters making each night an interactive and unique experience.

I hope you all have as much fun watching as we do creating! Sit back, enjoy the show and… May the farce be with you!

Dinner Theatre Concept Production Team

The dinner theatre concept uses a consistent team for all productions. If a particular member of the production team is unavailable for a specific show, other alternatives are explored, such as guest writers and directors. The productions begin in Winnipeg where they run for approximately 10 weeks. At the end of the run in Winnipeg, the set, including lighting and sound designs, props, music and actors all move on to Edmonton where the show runs for another 10 weeks. The production team will then move on to Calgary. Unlike the restaurant business where management can be developed and moved from one location to another, the theatres require the services of a very specialized group of individuals. This group has been associated with the company since Janet Cunningham and Doug Stephen took over the Winnipeg dinner theatre in 1993. The biographies of the key individuals involved with the dinner theatre productions are presented below.

Randy Hadubiak

Randy is the individual responsible for the lights and sound in each dinner theatre production, including all aspects of the design process. Randy has performed those duties for over 20 years as a technician and designer. As the opening of each production approaches, Randy researches the music and history of the period in which the show is set in order to ensure that the production is as authentic as possible. Randy heads the technical staff in each location and as such is responsible for the transition from one show to another. That transition involves the set-up of the lights and speakers to suit the show, taking into consideration the uniqueness of each theatre. When Randy is not involved in a transition, he can often be found working the lights or sound in the Jubilations dinner theatre in the West Edmonton Mall.

Jaimie Cooney

Jaimie is the set designer and head carpenter for Jubilations/Celebrations Dinner Theatres in Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary. Jaimie and her creative team enjoy inventing exciting worlds for 5 new shows in 3 cities each year. From pirate ships and castles to underwater adventures each show presents its own challenge. They aim to create a backdrop that brings the audience into the story and action on stage. Born in Manitoba and raised in central Alberta, where she still resides today; Jaime received her Fine Arts Degree at Red Deer College in 2000 and her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Alberta College Of Art And Design in 2003. Straight out of college she began working with the theatre’s production team painting the wall murals and soon progressed to set construction and eventually set design, becoming head designer in 2017. Jaimie’s art work is also featured in other venues such as Aussie Rules and the School Of Rock in Calgary as well as Cheers Pub and numerous homes in the Red Deer area

Van Wilmott

Van assists Randy Apostle in selecting the music for each production. Once the music is selected, Van maps out the music, records the bass and drum tracks, hires the stage musicians and goes into a studio to create the final product. When Van is not working for the Celebration and Jubilation dinner theatres, he is very much in demand on the Edmonton music scene as both a musician and musical director.

Corey Beaulieu – Hand Solo

Hailing from Vancouver, Corey has been a performer and a nerd from a young age and now those two worlds will culminate together in tonight’s performance like a storm of honey and lightning as Star Wars meets musical comedy. Portraying one of his favourite fictional characters is an experience like no other for Corey. He is excited to play everyone’s beloved handsome scoundrel for you tonight once again in this sequel to 2016’s Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy. When Corey is not acting in a scripted stage or screen performance, he loves to stretch his improv muscles in a weekly improvised soap opera full of laughs and drama. And, if you are a fan of Twitch.tv, be sure to catch him playing and entertaining you at twitch.tv/badgersolo. So relax and may you enjoy his performance tonight as the man who shot first! And to Kesinee... I know.

Miranda Niehaus – Ray

I am thrilled to be invited back for my second show with Jubilations playing the part of Ray – I mean, what 21-year old girl doesn’t want to have her own lightsaber and save the galaxy, right!? (yeah I see you nodding!) I am a graduate of the Victoria School of Performing Arts here in Edmonton, and have had the opportunity to perform as a vocalist at K-Days and Big Valley Jamboree. You may remember me as Piper in The Jailhouse Rocks: Orange is the New Pink. Other credits include Oliver! (Fagan’s Gang), CATS (Macavity/Plato) and West Side Story (Anybody’s). I want to thank Randy and Bob, for believing in me and for allowing me to bring my energy to the Jubilations stage (and I have a lot of it!) and my fellow cast mates and crew for their support. I hope you find tonight’s show out of this world!

Harrison Bentley – C3P0/Commander Karl

Hello, I am Harrison Bentley, actor-audience relations. It is a pleasure to have you here joining us tonight, and I hope you enjoy our presentation. In my spare time I have appeared on stage with Front Row Center players, Storybook Theater, and other companies back home in Calgary. If you have ventured out to Calgary, you may have seen me in such shows as: The Pajama Game – featured ensemble, Legally Blonde – Dewey/Kyle, Grease – Johnny Casino, The Mystery of Edwin Drood – Nick Cricker Jr./Deputy. With all this experience, I am fluent in over 6,000,000 forms of messing up the English language. Have fun rocking out with us in space and remember not to trust any strange computers.

Kesinee Haney – Princess Leia

Kesinee is a singer, actor and dancer, originally from Calgary, AB, currently residing in Vancouver after five years of living in New York City. Kesinee is absolutely over the moon to be reprising her role of Princess Leia in her third Jubilations show. She could not be more proud to be sharing the stage with this incredible cast of star warriors! You may have also seen her as Princess Leia in Star Warz: A Galactic Rock Comedy, or as Jane in Elvis and the Las Vegas Hangover. When she’s not on the Jubilations stage, she has been seen in things like Uh-Oh!: A YTV Burlesque with Wink Yahoo (Geekenders), playing Jennifer in How I Met My Mother: A Back to the Future Musical (Geekenders), or playing Lieutenant Litzche in the off-Broadway production of Sea Legs: A Nautical New Musical. Thank you to Bob, Randy, the whole crew and artistic team who made this show possible, and to my beloved friends and family who continue to support me, and my dreams, every single day. Now please, sit back, relax, hop onto the Millennium Falcon and let us take you to a galaxy far, far away. And to my wonderful partner Corey... I know.

Michael o’Keefe – Darth Vader/Steve Bacca

Welcome to the Death Star! I am honoured to be back for my third tour with this amazing company. I previously portrayed the roles of: street wise candy dealer, Tootsie Roll, and dancing momma’s boy, Norbert, in Hey, Pretty Woman. Followed by love struck music therapist, Man Bun, in The Jailhouse Rocks: Orange is the New Pink. Now I have the pleasure of playing ace pilot, Steve Bacca, and one of the most iconic villains of all time, Darth Vader, for tonight’s performance. If you had told 8 year old me that he would grow up and get to play Darth Vader professionally, he would have said, “Yeah obviously, I pretend to be him every time I’m talking into a fan.” 8 year old me had too big of an ego and was wrong about most things, but alas, this time he was right. Needless to say this is a dream come true, and to be surrounded by such an amazing cast, crew and ad-cast really does make this experience out of this world! Oh yeah! Space puns! Now sit back, and leave your worries at the door. For tonight, they are in a galaxy far, far away.

Kelly Benzing – Darth Tiffany/Beth

Kelly is so thrilled to be returning to the stage here at Jubilations Dinner Theatre.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Kelly has been taking singing lessons since the age
of 5. Some of her most recent shows include: Downton Abbey Road: Songs of the
Beatles, Hey, Pretty Woman, and Pirates of the North Saskatechwan III. Kelly
would like to thank Bob, Randy, and her fellow cast mates for this opportunity.
Now relax and enjoy the show!!
